DC DnB

The past six months or so has seen an incredible explosion of drum ‘n’ bass nights in DC. I have noticed at least four new nights in the immediate area, and it appears that outlying areas are joining the movement.

Why is this happening? Just about everywhere else, dnb is being pushed aside for other material. Many dnb fans are moving on to new worlds (e.g., dubstep or even finally getting into German minimalism) while lobbing criticisms of stale, soul-less, and pop at the current (worldwide) dnb scene.

Is this a case of DC just being several years behind the curve? Or is DC ahead of the curve somehow? Or is DC not on the curve?

For the record, DC has always–well, as long as I’ve been around–had a decent number of dnb nights and events for dnb. These rarely pushed the edge, but usually provided a good time.

Taking It Back To 1998: Posted A Hip Hop Album Project

In college, I worked with a guy named Dave Gibson and we recorded about ten tracks. I have no idea what happened to Dave, but I still have–and like–the music we made. I created an entry in my Projects page and a site where you can download the ten songs. He did all the vocals and lyrics, and we co-produced the music. Happy listening.
