Reuben Eating

I ate three Reubens in one day and two states yesterday. Each one was better than the last, with the last one probably being the second best Reuben I’ve ever eaten.

One More Reason Why We Have It Better Than Our Parents

The fact is that life in a fallout shelter during the Cold War would have been terrible, in large part because the canned food would have been hardly edible. These days, though, we have all kinds of delicious gourmet canned goods, including fancy-shmancy tuna–which got me thinking along these lines. Hell, even cats these days eat better than humans would have in the 1950s (and even many people of today).

I have been thinking a lot about this lately, in large part because of a lunch at a friend’s house where we had some gourmet tuna (a couple cans of which I later bought and enjoyed as snack). I was reminded of the issue recently, when my Mom pulled out cake a friend of hers preserved in mason jars (ala preserved jam or fruit). Here is a photo of the chocolate cake, which was pretty good (I’m not much of a dessert person):
