I wrote a bit ago about how two Washington City Paper writers, who are also my friends, are learning how to drive. Turns out they had their second lesson this past weekend, and it’s very funny–probably because, unlike most City Paper writers, they know how to write. Come on, it wouldn’t be a post about the City Paper here if I didn’t state matter of factly how terrible they are.
Bonde do Role, Plastic Little, and Edie Sedgwick at Black Cat (20070911)
I came for Edie Sedgwick and left for Bonde do Role. I had never heard Edie Sedgwick before, but was lured in by the drummer who is also in S PRCSS and Antelope. Turns out that, this iteration at least, Edie Sedgwick had Jason Hutto of The Aquarium playing keys. They sounded a little rough, but excellent–very tricky tempos.
I had seen Bonde do Role before, and paid the price with a headache. At least one friend suffered the same fate, despite my warning. You might be too cool for school, but I’m too cool for bands who can’t respect a sound system.
The Aquarium And More At the Black Cat (20070910)
I love The Aquarium. They give me hope that maybe the guitar will become extinct in the next few years. Unfortunately, the next band–The Shirks, I believe–curbs you back into reality–a reality where one poorly played guitar is just not enough for most people.
